Author of of the books:
Crazy Shortcut Quilts,
Finish (almost) Any Quilt,
Sew & Quilt in Comfort,
Quilt As You Go {reimagined},
T-Shirt Quilts

My specialty is quilt–as–you–go and my books are well reviewed and popular with beginner and experienced quilters because when the project is complete they have a FINISHED quilt! My techniques can be adapted to fit many types of quilting, from crazy quilting to UFO’s—I’d love to show you how! I am passionate about ergonomics and comfort for sewing and quilting and I invented an inexpensive solution that works for all sewing machines. Wouldn’t your guild members benefit from seeing it?

The quilt-as-you-go process requires that the blocks be made and quilted before being joined, therefore the full quilt workshops are a minimum of 2 days and several are 3 days.

Marguerita McManus - Doll QuiltI have a single day class called “Doll in One”. It’s all about techniques and this class covers it all, in one little doll quilt. You’ll learn the crazy cutting techniques, how to use your decorative stitches to do the quilting, the critical 3–point trimming, the full joining process and a machine binding with my “pretty corners”.

At the end of the class you will have a full understanding of my very popular quilt–as–you–go techniques and a cute little doll quilt.

Then I’ll demonstrate all the ways the techniques can be adapted to make larger crazy quilts, finish UFO’s, make modern style quilts and make T-shirt quilts. It’s a class, mini-trunk show, lecture and inspiration session all in one day!

Small class size means personalized attention for everyone.

Crazy Shortcake Quilt As You GoMy most popular quilt class is the 2 day Crazy Shortcake Class. A crib or lap size quilt made from one layer cake (10″ x 10″ squares) and 1 yard of fabric. This quilt is easy to finish in a 2 day workshop and it covers the crazy cutting, layering and machine quilting using decorative stitches, the 3-point check for trimming, full joining of blocks and rows, and a machine binding with “pretty corners”.

Because the quilt-as-you-go process requires that the blocks be made and quilted before being joined, my full-quilt workshops are a minimum of 2 days.

I prefer smaller groups and have updated my fees to reflect that.

Quilt As You Go Demonstration, Lecture, Trunk Show $350
Sew & Quilt In Comfort Ergonomics Lecture $250.00
1 Day Doll-in-One Class price negotiable / Min 6 / Max 12
2 Day Workshop: $1,000 / Max 15
3 Day Workshops/Retreat $1,200 / Max 15

Lectures & Demos

Quilt As You Go Lecture, Demo, Trunk Show – I demonstrate the entire process of my quilt-as-you-go (QAYG) techniques for creating crazy quilts, modern quilts, T-Shirt quilts and how to use quilt-as-you-go to finish UFO’s. You’ll see quilts from each of my books and handle samples passed around the room. 1 hour lecture and full technique demonstration—$350

Ergonomics Lecture & Demo – My lecture and demonstration is of the largest, most innovative, inexpensive, unique, adaptable, custom fitted, ergonomically correct solution to create a perfectly flat, smooth, slick quilting surface that fits every single sewing machine . I talk about the three most important factors for creating an ergonomically correct sewing area and all of its customizable options.

You’ll hear about my journey to find a properly fitted table and some surprising benefits to having one like mine. You’ll come away with enough information to be able to create your own custom table in an hour or less, from materials sold at home improvement stores, using NO power tools.

The ONE thing that makes ALL the difference in machine quilting is a flat surface to support the quilt. ALL quilters need to learn how to take care of their bodies while sewing. A comfortable fit for your sewing area is as important as comfortable walking shoes—and (just as with shoes) there is no such thing as “one size fits all”. 1 hour lecture and demonstration—$250

Travel – Home is both Seward, Alaska and an RV in Arizona and Nevada. Because she travels in her RV, traveling expenses are minimal.
