The mission of this site was to connect professional quilt teachers with the guilds that want to hire them. In 2020 that changed to connecting guild representatives (President, Program Chair, etc.) with each other via Zoom meetups and round table discussions.
The Guild To Guild Network was Created!
The Guild To Guild Network is a group of dedicated guild representatives (Presidents, Program Chairs, Membership Committee) who are passionate about keeping their guilds growing during this time of change. We meet regularly on our mission to help each other and keep our traditional guilds thriving.
This website was started in 2012 by Marguerita McManus (more about me below) as a way to facilitate the connection between quilt guilds and teachers. As a guild member and a professional teacher I saw exactly how difficult it can be to make this connection. I spent years (and built a few other sites) trying to solve this problem (or just put a dent in it!) and came up with the idea of a calendar of teacher dates.
My thoughts were that if guilds could see ALL the teachers who are traveling they would be exposed to teachers they’ve never heard of and teachers who are in their region (less cost to bring to their guild) leading to more bookings for teachers.
If I could figure something out that facilitated the connection between teachers and guilds, I’d win (more bookings), guilds would win, and other teachers would win too!
I built the site, bought the software, and worked, hard. Seriously hard. And after eight years I have 988+ guild members signed up for my newsletter with new signups every day. We share info and solve problems via Zoom in weekly Meetups.
It’s a teacher’s dream – being sought out by guilds instead of having to go chase them down for a gig, and it’s a guild program chair’s best friend – with teacher profiles searchable by their teaching specialties or their ability to present virtually – online- via Zoom or other service.
about marguerita
I’ve been a professional quilt teacher since 1998; I’ve attended numerous (I honestly can’t remember how many) Quilt Markets. I was there for the debut of my first book in 2007, giving the most highly complimented Schoolhouse that F&W had ever received (that’s an interesting story – believe me!).
I have worked in booths at Market (for friends) as well as walked the show with shop owners and managers. I’ve presented professional development seminars at Quilt Market and at the (formerly CHA) Association for Creative Industries Mega Show on both self-publishing and video marketing. I have written 7 quilting books, the first stayed on the publisher’s active list for ten years and the other 6 were successfully self-published and provide me with a nice income.
I am a YouTube Partner, with over 2.5 million views to my videos and just about 15,000 subscribers.
I live in Alaska in the summer and travel and teach and lecture in the winters. You can reach me at MMQuilts @ gmail.com and I’d really love to hear from you!
