Marge Tucker

Phoenix, AZ from Nov to early May

Norwell, MA from early May to end of October

Marge Tucker is an international award-winning quilt artist and quilting instructor.  The first quilt she made, over twenty-five years ago, was for friends expecting their first child.

“At that time, I didn’t know that quilting would become my passion and now my profession.  I feel so fortunate to be able to share and continue the tradition of quilting with my students.”

Burst

“I started with traditional pieced quilts but am now focused on abstract improvisational design in my work.”

Marge has received numerous awards for her quilts including, “Best of Show” at Mancuso Quilt Show Visuals #4 in 2021, “Best use of Color-Innovative Quilts” at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in 2022, “Best Machine Quilting” at QuiltCon 2019 as well as “Best Sewing Machine Workmanship Award – Modern” at the Pacific International Quilt Festival in 2019 as well as numerous other awards for her quilts.

Her quilts have been published in several of Gwen Marston’s book (Minimal Quiltmaking and Free Range Triangle Quilts).  Several quilts have also been featured in the periodical Curated Quilts  (Black and White Issue #10 and Collaborate Issue #18.  Another quilt, “Burst” was accepted into the Excellence in Fibers 11th Anniversary exhibit.

Coming Into Light

A recent solo exhibit at the New England Quilt Museum, displayed a collection of Marge’s antique and vintage quilts along with her contemporary designed quilts.

Marge teaches throughout the United States (and abroad) as well as from her studio in Rockland, MA.

Heidi was born and raised in Rochester, New York, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from Rochester Institute of Technology. In 2000, Heidi began offering her services as a product designer to a number of fabric companies. She created her own line of quilt patterns beginning in 2002 and in 2004 Heidi started designing fabric in her own bright and whimsical style. By 2005 the work load warranted expanding to a partnership and The Whimsical Workshop, LLC was born with Heidi as the chief designer.

Heidi is known for her fun and whimsical quilts which she often makes in dramatic, bright colors. She also designs quilt patterns for a variety of popular quilting magazines. In addition she has written five books; Quilted Whimsy, Bold Batiks and Dazzling Designs for Leisure Arts, Pop Up Paper Structures for C&T Publishing and Fabric Jewelry-Wrapped, Braided and Sewn for F&W Media.

Heidi has been lecturing and teaching about being a designer for the fabric industry and about the 1000’s of quilts she as designed the various fabric companies over the years since 2002. Her classes cover the majority of the popular piecing and applique techniques available today, as well as classes on tools, color and design. Home: Alaska (April-September), northwestern Arizona (October-March).
Author of of the books: Crazy Shortcut Quilts, Finish (almost) Any Quilt, Sew & Quilt in Comfort, Quilt As You Go {reimagined}, T-Shirt Quilts, Crazy Shortcake

My specialty is quilt–as–you–go and my first book was a best seller for ten years, going into multiple re-prints. My techniques are popular with beginner and experienced quilters because when the project is complete they have a FINISHED quilt! My techniques can be adapted to fit many types of quilting, from crazy quilting to UFO’s—I’d love to show you how! I am passionate about ergonomics and comfort for sewing and quilting and I invented an inexpensive solution that works for all sewing machines. Wouldn’t your guild members benefit from seeing it?

My most popular class is the One Day Doll Quilt. This cute four-block quilt covers it all: crazy cutting, decorative stitch quilting, trimming squarely, joining blocks and rows and my pretty corners technique for binding. Finished quilt is 18″ sq.

The quilt-as-you-go process requires that the blocks be made and quilted before being joined, therefore full quilt workshops are a minimum of 2 days.

Crazy Shortcake Quilt As You Go

My most popular workshop is the 2 day Crazy Shortcake Class. A crib or lap size quilt made from one layer cake (10″ x 10″ squares) and 1 yard of fabric.

This quilt is easy to finish in a 2 day workshop and it covers the crazy cutting, layering and machine quilting using decorative stitches, the 3-point check for trimming, full joining of blocks and rows, and a machine binding with “pretty corners”.

Quilt As You Go ~ A Progression of Techniques Trunk Show – How I use quilt-as-you-go to make fat quarter crazy quilts using the decorative stitches of the sewing machine; to finish UFO’s; to make T-shirt Quilts; to create modern looking quilts; and to make Layer Cake Quilts. This trunk show consists of 30 quilts from all of my books plus several unpublished quilts.
