Ann Moore

July 3, 2024 by Heather Johnston

Huntsville, Texas

I am a national quilting instructor and designer for Sew Steady/Westalee who started quilting several years ago after years of making my own clothes.  I enjoy making quilts even more because if the quilt doesn’t fit, just find a different wall or bed.  I love the process of making a quilt from start to finish.  I was blessed to attend classes with an international instructor several years ago and before I knew it I was asked to teach free motion quilting.

In 2016 while attending Houston Quilt Festival, I discovered Westalee Rulers and became hooked.  Teaching quilting with rulers was a natural progression and many students have indicated that they find ruler work easier and more fun.  Today, I incorporate free motion and ruler work into my quilts and classes and I recently collaborated with Jason Yenter from In the Beginning fabrics designing a pieced quilt with ruler work quilting using his amazing fabric.

I enter my quilts into several shows each year and have won numerous awards including Judge’s Choice, People’s Choice, Best Machine Quilting on a Domestic Machine and Best in Show along with a few 1st Place ribbons.  All of my quilting is done on domestic machines and they are my preference.

My husband Andrew and I live in Huntsville, Texas, and we are grandparents to 5 grandchildren.

I am available for teaching, demonstrating at events and am often a speaker for quilt guilds.  You can find me, and my ruler work classes along with instructional videos on the Sew Steady website and University, where I have several designs and classes to my credit.  I was recently asked to teach my corded binding method after showing a quilt in the Houston International Quilt Festival in 2023.

The quilt featured knotted corded binding and was very popular. I designed the Corded Binding class for guild workshops and the class can be extended to include ruler work.  I am happy to travel throughout the U.S. and Canada and perhaps internationally although English with a Texas twang is my only language.

For the past decade, Kathy has enjoyed sharing her love of quilt making with guilds and shops across the Midwest.  Then, in January of 2019 she moved to Texas!  And in the spring of 2020, she has gone nationwide!  Thanks to her history as a software instructor, our current stay-at-home situation provided Kathy with an opportunity to meld her computer experience with her love of teaching quilt making.

In May of 2020 – Kathy moved from the brick and mortar classroom to the virtual classroom ….  ZOOM.  Her first class had more than 20 students and it went great!  Visit her on Facebook (BobKat Quilts) or at her website to see what her students have to say about their ZOOM experience.  Whether you represent a guild looking for a presenter with ZOOM capabilities or you are a student wanting to take a class…  BobKat Quilts and Zoom is the perfect answer!

I have heard a very, very favorable review from a trusted guild member regarding how much they enjoyed Kathy’s program and how proficient she was with Zoom technology. ~Marguerita

Jen Eskridge

September 21, 2015 by Rita

Bleach effect Home: Helotes, Texas

Jen started sewing in 1993 on an old burnt yellow, Harvest Gold, Singer sewing machine.  Her mother taught the basics.  Jen made her first quilt in 1993.  She didn’t use any books or templates, and that poor quilt eventually fell apart.  It was recycled, though, into a curtain, duct taped over a dorm room window.

Fast forward a bit:  Jen earned a Bachelor of Science in Apparel Design in 1998 from Louisiana State University.  By 2003, she found herself quilting and sewing for her own company, ReannaLily Designs.  During that time, Jen also taught quilting at a national crafting store.  The website and company was launched in 2007.

Jen has traveled the world gathering inspiration and ideas for designs and patterns.  From Korea, and China, Japan, to North America, England and France, she has found many cultural and historical elements to guide her interest and creativity. It was in South Korea, while shopping at fabric manufacturer’s mill markets that Jen decided to apply her Apparel Design Degree to her very own quilting and sewing pattern company, ReannaLily Designs.

Once she returned to the United States in summer 2008, Jen launched the company with the trademarked Seamingly Accurate Seam Guide and commissioned sewing jobs. The company has evolved into a pattern and design company in addition to its humble sewing beginnings.

Jen Eskridge is the author of three books: Deploy That Fabric by C&T Publishing; Learn to Sew Easy by Leisure Arts; Hexagons Made Easy by Martingale Press/That Patchwork Place. Jen’s designs have been featured in multi-author books, as well as, over 20 magazines. Jen has been featured in numerous magazines, Sew It All TV and Pat Sloan’s Radio show for her design work.

Debbie Maddy

Home: Graham, Texas

I love fabric, sewing—and quilters! I design patterns for quilts that are visually stunning but easy to make. Since 1993, I’ve also shared my enthusiasm for quilting with others through teaching, near my home in Graham, Texas, and throughout the country.

In my simple, accurate No Diamonds / No “Y” Seams technique, there are no fussy bias edges and all the quilt assembly is done with straight-line sewing. Instructions are written in an easy-to-follow style, with cutting, layout and piecing diagrams to ensure success. Using my patterns, novice quilters can confidently make beautiful old-style quilts, while experienced quilters can enjoy fast, easy piecing with striking results.
