Michelle Umlauf

August 15, 2019 by admin

Home: Sabillasville, Maryland.

Michelle Umlauf began her sewing career as a freelance National Educator for Sulky of America, Clover, and formerly Baby Lock.  She teaches at popular expos nationwide, in her local community and online.  Quilt guilds hold a special place in her heart because of the personal connections that are made during an event.

I have a quirky wit and coined my program brochure as “Spools & Tools”.  After all, that has been my area of expertise for nearly 15 years.

Lately, the most popular program is “Spools & Tools for Quilters.”   Guilds members love notions.  I demonstrate how to use them and set up an area for you to handle them.  Plus, I bring eye candy for you to enjoy.  Members haven’t heard of some of the notions, can’t find them or have something, but don’t know how to use it!  As a lecture, you will enjoy learning all about the amazing notions that make the quilt making process easier, faster and more accurate without disrupting the enjoyment it gives you.  In a hands-on workshop, I bring my “School Box” filled with almost everything you need to make a couple small projects just for the fun of it.  I love watching you test driving the “spools and tools”,  and discovering what works for you and help you when it doesn’t.  Clover has a lot of wonderful sewing notions, and I’m prepared to tell you about many of them.  You will find that I tend to over-deliver because I am very passionate and enthusiastic about you, and giving you the best of me.

My experience has afforded me the opportunity to become well-versed in everything from hand embroidery to machine machine embroidery.  Recently, I have taken an interest in mixed media, art quilts sprinkled with a bit of hand embroidery. I contributed a piece of my work in the book Photo Memory Quilts by Lesley Riley.

You can sign up for my newsletter and get to know me and discover UFO Friday, a monthly meeting I host online.

My husband and our fur family enjoy traveling across the country and camping, so no place is off-limits.

Tammy Silvers

May 2, 2018 by Rita

Home: Acworth Georgia, USA

I design under the label Tamarinis, and specialize in – well, pretty much fun, inspiring projects. Guided improv and paper piecing patterns offer a modern spin on classic designs.

I am a Certified Studio 180 instructor, offering Tucker University sessions, as well as lectures, classes and workshops on Studio 180 tools, techniques and patterns and a certified Aurifilosopher. I teach regularly at Stitch’n Quilt, in Mableton GA.

I have been published in several quilting magazines and have multiple fabric lines with Island Batik.

My lecture options, supported with tons of quilt examples, focus on color and fabric choices, and how selections can transform a project.

Interrogating Your Quilt:
Don’t be nice about it – force that fabric to talk to you! Get the real info on how it can work for you to help you achieve your “quilt” vision. This humor-laden lecture focuses on getting the most from your fabric choices and how fabric can (and does) influence the finished quilt! Supported by plenty of quilt examples from my retinue of quilts – good and bad!

Seeing Double:
Ever wonder – what would this quilt look like if I made it in another color way? If I used plaids and stripes instead of florals? Well, I can’t tell you what EVERY quilt would look like, but we can explore some practical examples together! In a fun format, we will compare quilts made in florals versus batiks, reproduction fabrics versus crisp modern prints, brights versus pastels. Gather inspiration and insight into the choices for your next project!

Auriphilosophy Lecture

Aurifilosophy is…
— The search for Knowledge and Truth, especially about the nature and behavior of Aurifil thread.
— A program designed to unlock the mysteries of thread, educate, inspire, and enable all users to achieve brilliant results.

We’ve trained and certified a team of dynamic, charismatic, and brand-loyal designers, artisans, and educators to offer Aurifilosophy using a structured presentation and thread demonstration. Aurifilosophers will cover thread basics, including information on weight and ply, spool positioning, needle recommendations, and tension settings. They’ll offer helpful tips and tricks, share projects and photos aimed to inspire and expand your use of Aurifil threads, and will gift each program attendee with a bag of exclusive Aurifil swag!

I offer many different workshops including online presentations focusing on a variety of techniques, including paper piecing, guided improv and faux curved piecing methods. You can see my patterns and workshops at www.tamarinis.com.

For the past decade, Kathy has enjoyed sharing her love of quilt making with guilds and shops across the Midwest.  Then, in January of 2019 she moved to Texas!  And in the spring of 2020, she has gone nationwide!  Thanks to her history as a software instructor, our current stay-at-home situation provided Kathy with an opportunity to meld her computer experience with her love of teaching quilt making.

In May of 2020 – Kathy moved from the brick and mortar classroom to the virtual classroom ….  ZOOM.  Her first class had more than 20 students and it went great!  Visit her on Facebook (BobKat Quilts) or at her website to see what her students have to say about their ZOOM experience.  Whether you represent a guild looking for a presenter with ZOOM capabilities or you are a student wanting to take a class…  BobKat Quilts and Zoom is the perfect answer!

I have heard a very, very favorable review from a trusted guild member regarding how much they enjoyed Kathy’s program and how proficient she was with Zoom technology. ~Marguerita
