Home: Central, Maine RETIRED
As the “Quilt Whisperer,” Bonnie enjoys sharing her quilt knowledge with others who are interested in quilt history, quilt making, quilt care, and quilt appreciation. She offers programs on quilt history, fabric dating, quilt making, as well as current quilting trends. Bonnie travels to quilt guilds, historical societies, quilt shows, and shops to offer lectures, workshops and trunk shows.
Textiles have been an area of interest since Bonnie learned to sew when she was a child. She was surrounded by needle arts all her life – the women in her family were prolific at knitting, tatting, crochet, embroidery, clothing construction, and quilt making.
Bonnie has Maine roots and raised her family there while also pursuing a degree in library science. Always a lifelong learner, Bonnie expanded her interest in the needle arts by taking up quilting in the mid-1980’s. She studied quilt history, fabric dating, quilt repair & restoration, and quilt appraising, earning national certification by the American Quilters’ Society in 2006.
While appraising and attending regional and national quilt shows, Bonnie developed an appreciation for art quilts, improvisational quilts, and the modern quilting trend. Consequently, her repertoire is eclectic – from 19th Century American quilts to The Modern Quilt Guild, Bonnie shares her quilt collection in lectures and trunk shows. Having dabbled in many quilting styles, she also shares her skills in workshops.
